Evaluating Digital Competency – The Self-Assessment Test for Nurses

As digital technologies become integral to healthcare, ensuring nurses are digitally competent is critical. The NURIC project has developed a Digital Competency Self-Assessment Test for Nurses, a tool designed to evaluate nursing informatics competencies and guide educational pathways.

Key highlights and impact

The test employs a concise 12-item questionnaire, available in English, Albanian, and Hebrew, measuring competencies such as digital communication, data management, and attitudes toward technology. By categorizing participants as beginner, intermediate, or advanced, the test helps align nurses with appropriate training courses.

This self-assessment provides a baseline for improvement and tracks competency gains before and after training. By piloting the tool in Kosovo and Israel, NURIC has ensured cultural and contextual relevance through expert input and rigorous testing.

Empowering nurses with digital confidence enhances patient outcomes and ensures effective participation in healthcare’s technological evolution.
