We’re thrilled to provide a detailed update on the highly successful pilot phase of the NURIC Project in Israel, a critical component of our collective Erasmus+ initiative. This phase is designed to test and refine the educational resources that will empower the next generation of digitally fluent nurses.
This program is currently engaging a cohort of 10 senior, experienced nurses from our partner institutions. These participants aren’t just students; they are being prepared as future “Train-the-Trainer” experts. By mastering the new curriculum first, they will be equipped to efficiently and effectively disseminate this essential knowledge to a wider audience of nursing professionals and students. This focused approach is key to achieving the project’s long-term sustainability and widespread impact across the healthcare system.

The pilot participants have already completed two highly relevant and specialized learning modules, marking significant progress toward enhancing nursing informatics competencies:
The Uniqueness of Health Data: Developed in a productive collaboration with Philip Liebman, this module dives deep into the specific characteristics of healthcare data. It covers crucial topics such as data security, patient privacy (including legal frameworks like GDPR/HIPAA-equivalent guidelines), and the ethical management of sensitive patient information. Understanding the value and vulnerability of health data is a cornerstone of nursing informatics and the digital safety culture we aim to foster.
Communication Skills in Telehealth: The shift to virtual care necessitates entirely new communication paradigms. This module focuses on the unique challenges and best practices for interacting with patients remotely, covering everything from building rapport over video calls to ensuring clarity and empathy in text-based communications. This is essential for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a digitally mediated environment.
We extend a huge thank you to our partners at the Holon Institute of Technology (HIT) for their instrumental role and fruitful collaboration in the development and deployment of these high-quality educational materials.
The dedication shown by the senior nurse participants is inspiring. Their feedback is actively shaping the final curriculum, ensuring that the resources are practical, relevant, and immediately applicable to the Israeli nursing workforce. We look forward to sharing more milestones as we continue to advance digital excellence in nursing education through the NURIC Project! 💪
