Universum International College Launches Nano-Course “AI in Nursing” to Enhance Digital Competencies in Healthcare Education

Universum International College is proud to announce the successful launch of its new nano-course, “Artificial Intelligence in Nursing,” led by Prof. Shend Ferizi. The course was officially introduced today as part of the innovative NURIC project, which aims to strengthen digital skills and modernize higher education curricula across partner institutions. This nano-course represents a major step forward in preparing nursing students for a rapidly evolving healthcare sector shaped by digital transformation and intelligent technologies.

The AI in Nursing nano-course is integrated within the 6th semester of the Nursing Bachelor Program. Designed for students with foundational knowledge in healthcare informatics and patient care, the program provides a focused and practical introduction to the use of artificial intelligence in clinical settings.

In alignment with global trends in digital health, the course equips students with a strong foundation in AI concepts and their practical relevance to nursing. By the end of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the basics of artificial intelligence and understand its emerging role in nursing practice.
  • Identify ethical considerations associated with AI in healthcare, including accuracy, reliability, bias, and fairness.
  • Explore how AI can support clinical decision-making, improving efficiency and patient care outcomes.

These learning objectives position students at the intersection of technology and healthcare — preparing them to engage critically and responsibly with evolving digital tools.

The curriculum covers key topics designed to familiarize students with the growing presence of AI in clinical workflows. Core subjects include:

  • Ethical implications of AI in nursing
  • Fundamentals of AI in healthcare
  • AI-based clinical support systems
  • Virtual nursing assistants
  • Robot-assisted nursing care

The launch of this course is made possible through the support of the NURIC project, which emphasizes digital transformation in education. With around 50 participants registered in the self-assessment of digital competencies, Universum International College continues to lead in integrating modern technologies into academic programs. By introducing AI in Nursing, UIC reaffirms its commitment to equipping future nurses with the advanced skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a technologically advanced healthcare system.

Following the successful implementation of this nano-course, Universum International College plans to continue expanding its digital health curriculum.
